10 Iconic Classical Songs You Only Know Because Of The Movies

3. The Blue Danube From 2001: A Space Odyssey

When you hear The Blue Danube, your head will undoubtedly jump to one of two actions. The first is, obviously, waltzing, seeing as that€™s what the song is. After you€™ve seen 2001: A Space Odyssey, however, a different but just as elegant type of movement comes to mind on a much bigger scale. After the most monumental jump cut in film takes us from prehistoric man to the age of space travel, a ship cruises by, we tilt up across the surface of the Earth and a wheel steadily rotates to soothing music of Johann Strauss. It really takes something to make The Blue Danube intrinsically paired with 2001 over every other film it€™s featured in, considering it has an animated film all to its own but this sequence is really that good. 2001 can sometimes be a difficult film to watch (especially in its entirety) but The Blue Danube gives us a brilliant glimpse into the future, showing the human race reaching out across the stars to some of its greatest classical music.
