Mr. Boogie is definitely one of the creepiest looking villains in recent memory, and all of his appearances in the last act of Sinister are absolutely haunting. His real name is Bagul, and he's an ancient Babylonian deity who feasts on the souls of human children. The kids refer to him as Mr. Boogie, a name which is obviously meant to be reminiscent of the Boogeyman. Part of what's great about Mr. Boogie is the mystery behind him, as you don't fully understand who he is or what his powers are for most of the film. It's eventually discovered that he can travel into the human world through images of himself. In one truly terrifying scene, Ethan Hawke's character has an image of Mr. Boogie pulled up on his computer, but then suddenly it starts moving on its own. He's a truly excellent modern horror character, and it really feels like something that could only work today. In a time when audiences are so overwhelmed with screens and thousands of images all day, Sinister takes advantage of that with Mr. Boogie, implying that those images could come alive at any moment.
