10 Iconic Images From Alfred Hitchcock Films

4. A Murder of Crows

In what is arguably the most famous scene from Hitchcock's horror film The Birds, Melanie Daniels (Tippi Hendren) is waiting outside a children's school for the little sister of her friend and possible romantic interest Mitch Brenner (Rod Taylor), and as she waits a group of crows gathers on a jungle gym. Hitchcock racks up the tension by cutting between Melanie and the birds landing, and we finally see the entire group of them when, through Melanie's perspective, we follow one as it lands on the jungle gym . It's an expertly crafted suspense sequence, both quietly menacing and quite funny. One can't help but think of Homer Simpson telling Marge "It's a murder, honey. A group of crows is called a murder."
