1. Indiana Jones - Raiders Of The Lost Ark
This one hurts the most to add to this list. Indy is my all time favorite film character and Raiders Of The Lost Ark is my all time favorite film. None of this changes the fact that Indy saved the day by COMPLETE accident. Heck, he could have died in the opening scene and the Nazis still would have failed. Through all of the heroic feats Indy accomplished throughout the film, actually being the one to save the day was not among them. Be it a double cross, a mistake or bad luck, he was beaten at every turn. However, like all heroes before him, he never gave up. He doggedly chased his enemy all over the globe and even (inadvertently) helped them along the way. The Nazis used Indy to get the information they needed and finally located the lost ark of the covenant. It was only their extreme hubris that did them in. Their certainty that they were worthy of opening the covenant and using its power to control the world was their undoing. So simply by closing his eyes and not looking at the ark as the Nazis opened it, he and Marion survived. He survived to tell the story of what happened to the Nazis' melted faces and give us two sequels. Yes two, the last one doesn't count.
