10 Iconic Movie Moments That Were Completely Improvised

6. Malcolm McDowell's Impromptu Performance Of "Singin' In The Rain" - A Clockwork Orange

Stanley Kubrick knows more than a thing of two about crafting iconic works of cinema - quite rightly regarded as one of the greatest directors of all time, his movies are full of striking imagery which will be forever engrained in the history of cinema. Yet, while he was equally renowned for his meticulous approach to his craft, carefully planning many of the scenes in his movies down to the last detail, he was not averse to giving his actors plenty of leeway to bring something of themselves to their roles. Kubrick is no stranger to to juxtaposing scenes of violence with seemingly out of place music, and his controversial classic A Clockwork Orange is the best example where this dynamic is employed. One of the most memorable - and disturbing - scenes occurs when the violent delinquent Alex (Malcolm McDowell) and his droogs break into a woman's home and proceed to rape her. Kubrick struggled for some days in an attempt to get the scene just right, finally asking McDowell if he knew how to dance. The actor took things a step further and began to sing "Singin' in the Rain" - the icing on the chilling cake which made the horrific attack all the more potent. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=faML0QvVb2A
