10 Iconic Movie Scenes You Didn't Realise Happened By Accident

1. Django Unchained - DiCaprio Cuts His Hand Wide Open, Doesn't Care

Quentin Tarantino is a polarizing film-maker. There's generally not much grey area with his films; you either love them or hate them. Tarantino has built himself somewhat of an ensemble of actors he goes to, generally finding both critical and financial success with each release. He trusts his actors and is not afraid to let them take the reins.

And, oh boy, did DiCaprio take the reins of this scene.

Django Unchained is not always an easy watch, delving into controversial topics and history. The scene here is the aftermath of a dinner party, where the villainous Calvin Candie (DiCaprio) launches into a monologue justifying his ownership of slaves and threatening to kill one.

As filming begins, DiCaprio slams his hand on the table, smashing a small aperitif glass. Although seemingly minor at first, the glass accidentally cut DiCaprio's hand so deeply that he would need stitches, bleeding more and more as the scene played out.

DiCaprio stayed in character the whole time and Tarantino, recognizing a golden opportunity, kept filming. DiCaprio continued his rant, including wiping his bloody hand across Kerry Washington's shocked face and flinging blood onto the table before calmly wrapping up.

When he was done, both cast and crew gave him a well-earned standing ovation.
