10 Iconic Villains Who Deserved Much Better Deaths

9. Omar Little €“- The Wire

Omar Little The Wire
HBO

For some, Omar Little was The Wire - he was the charming, disarming anti-hero, whose misdeeds were instantly forgivable, and who we actually cheered on, especially in his one-man reign of terror in Season 5 before his eventual, hugely disappointing death at the hands of young drug dealer Kenard.

Rather than being shot down in a hail of glory by one of Marlo's men, or Marlo himself, Omar is shot in the back of the head by a disillusioned young hood who once saw his as a hero, and who sees weakness in his crutch-supported limp to kill him for street cred.

It was a bold decision, given the realism of the death, and the necessary removal of glorification. Just to reinforce the ignominy of his death, it is then revealed that the morgue got his toe tag mixed up with another, white, body.

How He Actually Deserved To Die

At the hands of those he actually fears will kill him.

The decision to have Omar killed by a glorified stooge robs the event of any pathos €“ we aren't invited to lament his moral goodness (okay, so it was badly skewed) and though his sorry conclusion somewhat fittingly makes him a statistic and adds some realism in the starkness of his death, it never feels right.

Omar should have gone down like Tony Montana, or should have been given the chance to finally show his commitment to his principles, rather than dying for a cigarette.
