Anthony Hopkins€™ portrayal of cannibalistic serial killer Hannibal Lecter is one of the most well-known villains in all of cinematic history. Before this film Anthony Hopkins wasn€™t known for playing the bad guy and he was a British stage actor who had studied under Sir Laurence Olivier. Today Hannibal Lecter still remains arguably his most well-known role (which he repeated in two more films €“ Hannibal and the prequel Red Dragon).

Hopkins€™ performance is creepy good. Just look at the way he stares directly into the camera€™s lens. He hardly even blinks. It€™s like he€™s gazing directly into your soul, wondering what your kidney tastes like. Hopkins accepted his Best Actor Oscar the following year €“ fava beans have never tasted the same since.
