10 Incredible Fan Films That Totally Succeeded Where Hollywood Failed

5. Judge Minty

Karl Urban's Dredd film went someway to repairing the damage of the catastrophic mess created by Sylvester Stallone in 1995, but still left a lot to be desired for the $50,000,000 that was invested in it.

It took Judge Minty, an impossibly polished and fiercely gripping fan adaptation, to really show how the 2000AD universe could be best realised though. As a story it's superb, as a spectacle is breathtaking, and as a piece of cinema it stands head and shoulders about both of Hollywood's laboured attempts to bring these characters onto the big screen. At the heart of it is an incredible performance by Edmund Dehn in the title role.

Finding the perfectly compelling balance between his human nature and the brutality of a Judge, the film's only main drawback is that its 25 minute running time is a lot less than both he and the story deserve.
