Vand's large, dreamy eyes are captured perfectly by Amirpour, portraying this nocturnal killer as a hero. Even though this little vampire kills, we root for her success. With surrealistic tableaus strategically placed throughout the film, one is sucked in, allowing the film to wash over them like a pleasant and bloody dream.

Amirpour's sophomore feature The Bad Batch (2016) was a less successful venture into the exploitation genre, but A Girl was such a tremendous feat that she'll surely be given another chance.
