10 Incredible Movie Parodies Nobody Noticed

8. Dr. No

When the first James Bond film, Dr. No, was being conceived, it was actually designed as something of a parody of the espionage and genre films of the era.

In a 1963 review, The New York Times famously called it a "spoof of science-fiction and sex" and remarked that "the crime-detecting adventure that Mr. Bond is engaged in here is so wildly exaggerated, so patently contrived, that it is obviously silly and not to be believed."

After all, above all else, is Dr. No's (Joseph Wiseman) underwater lair not a laughable extravagance to the point of spy film parody?

Yet Dr. No was such a rousing success in its own right that the parodic aspects of the film became tropes for the ongoing Bond franchise, many of which were fondly welcomed by fans each and every time.

The grand irony, of course, is that these tropes were then parodied in a bevy of films and TV shows, most notably the Austin Powers franchise.
