10. Alice - The Resident Evil Series

What happens when you take a flagship franchises from one of the greatest Japanese video game developers of all time and hand it over to Hollywood to adapt to the screen? Sadly, the result is perhaps one of the most misjudged series of adaptations ever seen; a catalog of missed opportunities which manages to leave out virtually everything which made the source material so memorable. One of the weakest elements of the games was the laughable characterization, so it's quite an achievement that Milla Jovovich somehow managed to imbue the central character Alice with even less personality than her video game counterparts. When not delivering badly written lines with all the personality of a fashion model, Alice is spinning and kicking her way through an assortment of CG creatures in action scenes reminiscent of sub-standard rip-offs of far better movies such as The Matrix, as well as other substandard action fare like the Underworld franchise. To be fair, Jovovich and director/husband Paul W. S. Anderson seem to know their target audience - horny pubescent boys into unobtainable sexy women and toned down cartoonish violence - and consistently play to them, but for readers who might question whether Alice is actually overrated, they need only take a look at the swelling box office receipts. Clearly too many people are paying to see this nonsense, explaining why a sixth installment is already on the horizon.
