3. M's Gravestone - Skyfall
Traditionally, the James Bond opening credits were an opportunity for an art team to sneak nudity in while Shirley Bassey crooned about how excellent and dangerous 007 is. It was a winning formula and the aesthetic was generally great, with some of those title sequences working like stand-alone works of art in their own right.
Even the modern Bond films still take a lead from that early aesthetic - albeit without the more overtly sexy tones - with bold imagery, iconography and a basic hint at the plot all taken into account. But Skyfall took the hinting a little further, basically revealing the fate of one of the franchise's most beloved characters in a few ominous frames.
As Judi Dench's name appears on screen, it's emblazoned over the image of gravestones, which wouldn't be so noticeable were it not for the fact that M ends up dying at the end of the film.
