10 Incredibly Talented Actors Who Will Never Win An Oscar
6. Jake Gyllenhaal
It's sort of hard to pin down exactly why Jake Gyllenhaal is so underrated. Maybe because everyone made such a huge deal out of Donnie Darko, and now they're trying to temper their reactions for everything he's done since then? If your first major role ends up being such an iconic film, that becomes hard to top. And when a movie comes out and gets so much attention that it starts to be considered overrated, that label sticks with its star for much longer than it's applicable. Because Jake Gyllenhaal has been involved in a lot of really solid films since he started acting at the tender age of ten, but he doesn't get as much recognition as he probably should. In Brokeback Mountain, his performance was overshadowed by the stoic, nuanced turn of his onscreen lover played by the late Heath Ledger. Sure, he's had his share of missteps (looking at you, Bubble Boy and Prince of Persia), but for the most part, his work has been reliable and worthy of praise. Maybe things will change for him in the future, but right now it seems like he's doomed to never get the respect he deserves.
