10 Incredibly Talented Actors Who Will Never Win An Oscar

3. Naomi Watts

Realistically, Naomi Watts has done just as many great films as other actors her age who have been rewarded at Oscar time. It highlights the arbitrariness of acting awards when you can point to an accomplished actress like Watts and wonder if she's any less deserving than, say, Nicole Kidman or Sandra Bullock. Have their careers really been any more rich and varied than hers to have merited the title of Oscar winning actress? She's been nominated twice over the years, for 21 Grams back in 2004 and for The Impossible two years ago, but each time she was beaten out. (Once by Charlize Theron and once by Jennifer Lawrence, which proves that there's nothing Hollywood loves more than beautiful actresses who make themselves ugly for a film and gorgeous young ingenues.) Time is not on Naomi Watts' side, either: history suggests that the Academy Awards are a young woman's game, and at 47 she is older than 63 out of 74 Best Actress winners. The Academy loves to reward their nubile 20-something actresses, and by this point everyone should be well aware that they aren't exactly stellar at writing good roles for older women.
