10 Infuriating Movie Endings That Pissed Fans Off

2015 marked the return of the Star Wars saga, with Han, Threepio, the Millennium Falcon and a whole new cast of characters. But, most importantly, fans were anticipating the return of the jedi: Luke Skywalker. Mark Hamill was on board, George Lucas was back in his box, Star Trek's J.J. Abrams was directing, and nothing short of a rebel insurrection could prevent a glorious return to form, stoking the hopes and imagination of audiences the world over.

However, to the chagrin of many, Luke is absent from 99% of the film. It is not until moments before the end credits roll that the original trilogy's hero takes to the screen, with a forlorn look and not a single line of dialogue. After the trailers teasing viewers for months with metal hands and hoods galore, fans expected a lot more Luke and an ending that didn't leave so much in the balance.

With no resolution to this larger plot strand - the search for Skywalker, which is arguably the MacGuffin of the film - a cliffhanger of epic proportions left fans equally delighted and fuming as they exited theatres, ready to face a further two-year wait for the elderly Jedi they had already spent a generation hoping to see in action.

Perhaps the perturbance felt in the aftermath of The Force Awakens forewarned the backlash Rian Johnson's The Last Jedi would receive in 2017, setting it up for something of a fall. But that's a whole other kettle of fish, or cauldron of Mon Calamari.
