1. He Started A Second Career As A Heavy Metal Musician In His 80s
Yes, Christopher Lee was a highly-regarded actor with an instantly recognisable voice, but did you know he also used that voice for more melodic purposes? Through the 80s and 90s Lee recorded some opera pieces - his grandparents started Australia's first opera company, so it was in his blood - but evidently this wasnt hardcore enough a musical genre. Sir Christopher Lee wanted something more - he wanted metal. Although hed collaborated with metal bands like Rhapsody of Fire beginning in 2005, Lee released his first full-fat metal record of his own, Charlemagne: By the Sword and the Cross, in 2010. This was followed by Charlemagne: Omens of Death in 2013, and Metal Knight the following year, both of which were made while Lee was a nonagenarian. Another fun fact: Lees song, Jingle Hell, reaching number 18 in the Billboard Charts in 2013 made him the oldest living performer, at 91, to ever enter the music charts. Rock on, Sir Christopher, and heres hoping youll continue doing so well into the afterlife. What other insane facts do you know about the late Sir Christopher Lee? Let us know in the comments below.
Lover of film, writer of words, pretentious beyond belief. Thinks Scorsese and Kubrick are the kings of cinema, but PT Anderson and David Fincher are the dashing young princes. Follow Brogan on twitter if you can take shameless self-promotion: @BroganMorris1
