10 Insane Movies Way Deeper Than They Look

To anyone who took one look at Quentin Dupieux's 2010 horror-comedy Rubber and dismissed it as a goofy, schlocky movie about a sentient tire that kills people with its telekinetic powers, they missed out on a movie that turned out to be surprisingly insightful and introspective.

Right from its opening sequence, the film lays its mission statement bare, with Lieutenant Chad (Stephen Spinella) literally addressing the audience and explaining to them that the movie is committed to the principle of "no reason."

Dupieux is basically making fun of both cinema and of life, where people so often expect to find a neat, tidy logic to things that happen, no matter that insane, absurd things - say, a rubber tire becoming animate - can occur for no discernible reason at all.

This is of course evident to anyone who sat down and watched the movie, because again Dupieux literally spells it out for you, but considering how many watched the trailer and thought they had the movie pegged without watching it, it's a far more intriguing beast indeed.
