5. Crispin Glover and 'The Letterman Incident'
Say what you will about David Letterman, but the guy's been able to weather some pretty crazy behaviour. From Harvey Pekar's ranting meltdown to more recently, Joaquin Phoenix's 'performance art', ol' Dave has just had to sit there at his desk and grit his gappy teeth. But the kuh-ray-zay was kicked up a notch when Crispin Glover, Cinematic Thespian and Weirdo of Note, was a guest on his show. From the very start, there was something not quite right. Glover was dressed head to toe in the garb of a hippy (later to be revealed the costume of his character Rubin from the then unreleased Rubin and Ed). After arguing with a member of the audience and babbling on about the evils of 'the press', Glover then challenged Letterman to an arm wrestling match. Letterman refused this request, and so Glover tried to karate kick him in the face, apparently only missing Letterman's schnoz by inches. Letterman, totally over this nuttiness, walked off set. After almost twenty years later, Crispin Glover still has not offered any apology or explanation for the incident. ... I honestly can't decide if that's idiotic or awesome. http://youtu.be/7dYjdKbMT_c
