Rosamund Pike gives a remarkable performance as the wily femme fatale Amy Dunne in David Fincher's grisly thriller Gone Girl, and her scene sure to stick in viewers' minds above all others is surely the sequence where Amy seduces her ex-boyfriend Desi (Neil Patrick Harris) before slitting his throat with a box cutter.

It was a majorly shocking moment not only for the character of Amy but also Pike, who hadn't ever acted out such a scene before.

As such, before shooting the scene, she walked into a butcher's shop and asked the staff if she could hop behind the counter and take a box cutter to some meat.

Indeed, rather than take the meat home and experiment with it in privacy, she decided to slice up a pig carcass with a box cutter in the butcher's, all while the staff were busily tending to customers.

In Pike's own words, "Anyone buying meat that day would have seen me behind the counter, with serious intent, finding out the mechanics of doing that."

Pike sure as hell convinced as a blood-thirsty maniac in the scene itself, and it's the moment in the movie that very likely cemented her eventual Best Actress Oscar nomination.
