10 Insanely Intense Films Any Horror Fan MUST See

And not just any Serbian film. A Serbian Film is the debut movie by Srđan Spasojević, and it was controversial the world over for the extremity of its scenes of sexual violence. The idea is simple and horrible: a porn performer is drugged and coerced into committing horrifying acts against his will so that a shady filmmaker can produce the most degrading pornography ever.

In the UK, over four minutes were cut out before the BBFC would allow it a certificate, making it one of the most highly censored films ever. Critics are so divided over this film that even people who like it can’t decide whether it is a searingly intelligent commentary on the history of Serbia (as the director claims) or a mindlessly exploitative and silly schlockfest.

Either way – and maybe both are true at the same time, who knows? – there are some unforgettable moments in this movie, which makes it a film of undeniable power, if also a film of questionable merit.
