10 Insanely Intense Scenes In PG-13 Movies

8. The Mummy (1999) - Burns Meets The Mummy Again

The Dark Knight Dead Batman

Back to rip-roaring action-adventuring, and this time we follow Rick O’Connell (Brendan Fraser) around Egypt as he searches for treasures and fights the undead.

The first Mummy movie, though not quite Indiana Jones, is a hoot. A lot of the cast are adept comedy actors, and there’s plenty of levity to ensure that the horrors of reanimated corpses and flesh-eating scarabs are all firmly part of the fun.

Very rarely does The Mummy stray into horror territory, but twice it certainly does.

One of the film’s secondary characters is a bespectacled American explorer called Burns (Tuc Watkins). When exploring Imhotep’s tomb, Burns falls foul of the classic Scooby Doo trope - losing his glasses then bumping into the monster. When Burns is found by the rest of the gang, he is still alive, but has had his eyes and tongue ripped out. But it gets worse for poor Burns when he meets Imhotep a second time in the movie's most intense scene.

Now blind and unable to talk, Imhotep and the weaselly Beni (Kevin J. O’Connor) pay Burns a visit. Burn’s vulnerability gives the scene a sadistic edge, with Beni in particular coming off as rather nasty, gloating at Burns before Imhotep consumes and kills him.

Thank goodness Beni gets a horrible death at the end too.
