10 Inspiring Documentaries Available For Free On Youtube
9. Hitman Hart: Wrestling With Shadows (1998)
There are some truly great wrestling documentaries out there, and also some pretty terrible ones (The Rise And Fall Of WCW, anyone?). When told sincerely, the stories of professional wrestlers and their ups and downs can be genuinely inspiring, but more often than not, the documentaries find themselves hastily thrown together in order to further a particular billionaires agenda. The Self-Destruction of The Ultimate Warrior comes to mind here. With that said, Hitman Hart: Wrestling With Shadows is definitely one of the better examples of a compelling yet somewhat tragic look inside the life of a professional wrestler. Following Bret The Hitman Hart during his last year with the WWF, the documentary explores the idea of stardom, the impact that the Attitude Era has had on Harts career, his relationship with Vince McMahon and the toll that wrestling has had taken on Harts family. Most importantly, Wrestling With Shadows documents the events of Survivor Series 97 that saw Bret Hart involuntarily drop the WWF championship to bitter rival Shawn Michaels. The event, which would later be referred to as the Montreal Screwjob, involved McMahon calling for the bell and declaring Michaels the new WWF champion as Bret was locked into his own signature submission hold, the Sharpshooter. The problem was, Bret never tapped out, he was essentially screwed out of his title. Though the events of the Montreal Srrewjob are well known, seeing the footage of the Hart family rampaging through the WWF locker-room in search of blood makes this well worth a watch.
