Probably no one expected Mad Max: Fury Road to be as good as it was; any movie that takes two whole years in the edit is usually never one to turn out all that great. The final product proved any doubters wrong and then some, with some of the greatest action the screen has ever seen and, more surprisingly, the most iconic performance of 2015, from Charlize Theron. The reason Theron gives the most iconic performance of the year so far? It's because, in Mad Max: Fury Road, she's the best 'kickass' woman that cinema has had since Ellen Ripley; because she dominates the screen in a film that also stars Tom Hardy and a man wearing a horse-toothed gas mask; and because her Furiosa does her fighting thing literally all with one arm. It helps that George Miller wrote such a robotic-limbed, raging revolutionary so well - Furiosa is, in the franchise lead's own film, a better character than Mad Max - but Theron matches the material with her most fearsome turn ever.
