10 Intense Horror Movie Scenes You Couldn’t Watch
1. Titane (2021) - Body Horror Birth
From acclaimed French filmmaker Julia Ducournau, the same visionary auteur behind the vomit-inducing finger sequence from coming-of-age cannibal flick Raw, Titane revolves around Alexia (Agathe Rouselle), a young dancer with a murderous streak and a passionate lust for cars.
However, things take a very strange turn near the start of the film when Alexia discovers that she’s become pregnant with a car’s offspring. Moreover, her situation only becomes more precarious when she poses as a fire captain’s missing son when she’s suspected of the killings, masking her pregnancy by binding her chest and stomach.
What follows is a thoughtful and brutal tale encircling themes of family and masculinity. However, Alexia’s pregnancy continues to progress. Motor oil leaking from her increasingly mutilated body introduces an element of body horror to this already insane film, with viewers wondering what sort of being is inside her.
When Alexia eventually enters labour, the ordeal is nothing short of harrowing. Her stomach rips in several places, revealing metal under her skin. She screams in abject agony and terror, a mixture of motor oil and blood spilling from her and soaking the bedsheets.
It’s no surprise there were reports of people fainting while watching this Palm D’or-winner in cinemas.
