Meeting up with your ex after doesn't sound like a very good time, never mind when they’ve mysteriously disappeared off the face of the Earth for years on end and appear out of nowhere asking you over. Listen to Dua Lipa and leave that s**t behind, guys.

Of course, The Invitation goes out of its way to prove its point, and our protagonist can't resist revisiting the past. Featuring a man attending a dinner party at his old house to reunite with his ex wife, he and a group of other guests see her for the first time in two years, brought together after she mysteriously disappeared following the traumatising death of their son. To put the cherry on the cake, she’s now got a new husband - which begs the question of what the heck is going on in this initial scenario.

Fraught with tension and leaving you guessing with each strange turn of events, The Invitation functions as the perfect exercise in psychological horror, jangling nerves and keeping you invested with each turn of events that gets darker and stranger with the film's runtime. Come Dine With Me will never be the same again.
