3. A Clockwork Orange Was Shot Without A Script
It might seem insane to suggest that somebody like Stanley Kubrick - a renowned perfectionist - would make a movie without a script, but when his dream project ("Napoleon") fell through, he set out to make what would be his quickest and - at least, from a budgetary point of view - cheapest movie ever, A Clockwork Orange, using only a copy of the novel as a guide - the American version, mind you, which differs from the original publication in a few ways. It's a real credit to Kubrick's talents, then, that he managed to make something so brilliant on what must have been something of a whim - scenes and lines were being improvised and planned without the comprehensive attention to detail you can glimpse in say, 2001: A Space Odyssey, and yet there's no way to tell. A Clockwork Orange looks and feels as Kubrickian as anything else in his filmography, despite being... well, made up mostly on the spot.
