4. Basterds Without Gloury

€œEach and every man under my command owes me one hundred Nazi scalps. And I want my scalps. And all y'all will get me one hundred Nazi scalps, taken from the heads of one hundred dead Nazis. Or you will die tryin€™.€

Who? The Inglourious Basterds, from the film of the same name. A group of Jewish-American (and some Jewish-German) soldiers in Nazi-occupied France whose job is, disguised as civilians, to kill as many Nazis as they can. And they€™re led by Lt. Aldo Raine, played by Brad Pitt. But wait, if there€™s already an Inglourious Basterds movie, how could this be a spin-off? Because as great as the film was, we actually didn€™t get to spend as much time with the Basterds as I would have liked. I want to see more of these guys killing Nazis, especially Til Schweiger€™s Hugo Stiglitz. The title of this actually comes from the working title (albeit spelled properly) of the Italian Inglorious Bastards, which Tarantino used as inspiration. Tarantino has said that his initial plan for Inglourious Basterds was to do it as a mini-series and one of the side stories would have dealt with a squadron of black soldiers who had been screwed over by the military and they go on a warpath towards Switzerland, killing white soldiers. While Tarantino said it could overlap with some of the Basterds, and although I€™d love to see that film, I still want to see the Basterds in a much larger role. After all, other than Raine, Stiglitz, and Donowitz, how many people can name the Basterds? Let€™s see more of these guys. Likelihood? Tarantino has talked about wanting to revisit Inglourious Basterds, both with Killer Crow and with a follow-up to the central characters, so this one may seem the most likely of all the projects. Hopefully he gets to work on it soon. A Tarantino WW2 trilogy would make for an awesome boxed set and one great way to spend a day off.
