10 Most Irritating Subplots In The Marvel Cinematic Universe
7. Steve & Peggy's Romance - Captain America: The First Avenger
Another subplot that was actually pretty good but simply frustrating is the love story between Captain America and Peggy Carter. The two strike up a quiet rapport over the course of the film, and it is in many ways the most dignified, likeable romance in the entire MCU. It's inevitably tipped with tragedy when Cap disappears into the ice at the end of the movie, only to be thawed out 70 years later, by which point Peggy will either be extremely old, or even dead. It was a major surprise that this wasn't resolved in The Avengers or even lightly referenced, though given how much Joss Whedon had to juggle, it is absolutely excusable. Captain America: The Winter Soldier will reportedly tie this story off, though hopefully they will give it the heartfelt resolution it deserves after 3 frustrating years of waiting.
