10 Key Changes We Wish Recent Movies Had Made
3. Bring Arnie Back, Substantially - The Predator
The Predator should have been WAY better than it ended up being. In Shane Black's hands, it should have been a nostalgic, knowing nod to the original that cut loose the silliness of some of the lore around the iconic alien hunter and stuck with a pure focus. It didn't do that and it ended up having a bizarre message about autism in it that was distracting and awkwardly fumbled for profundity.
Even that could have stayed in if they'd gone with a third act twist to really dial up the nostalgia. As was revealed after the film came out, Black's team had approached Arnold Schwarzenegger for a cameo, but he'd turned it down because it was too meagre. But what if they'd offered him something proper to do.
The film SHOULD have revealed the Predator Killer suit that was the final revelation of the movie in the run-up to the climax and it should have also revealed it by having Dutch wear it. Imagine the audience reaction to have Arnie back killing Predators for one last time (even if he died in the process). It's the kind of nostalgic sugar this film aimed for and completely fudged.
