10 Lame Movie Twists That Ruined Great Endings
7. It's 9/11 - Remember Me
For all intents and purposes, Remember Me was a romantic comedy in the same vein as Cruel Intentions, where the guy, in this case Robert Pattinson's Tyler, starts trying to woo the girl, Emilie de Ravin's Ally, out of spite or a bet as opposed to genuine attraction, but it evolves into a real romance nevertheless.
And the film continues in this way for almost it's entire run time. The two flirt their way through New York City, Tyler's troubled relationship with his businessman father, and Ally's struggles with her overprotective cop dad. But eagle-eyed viewers might be able to spot weird inconsistencies. There's something a little off about the newspapers, the New York skyline might look a little unfamiliar, and some elements of the timeline don't add up.
The final few minutes of the film reveals exactly what's wrong. Despite appearing to take place in the modern day, Tyler eventually goes to wait for his father at his office in the North Tower of the World Trader Center on September 11, 2001. It was a great reveal moment as the camera panned away from him to show the distinct structure of the tower, but the insanely heavy impact of using 9/11 as a plot point erased any emotional catharsis of Tyler and his father attempting to reconnect.
