10 Lamest Excuses For A Movie Failing

5. Everyone Else Is Wrong - Australia

Australia Hugh Jackman Nicole KidmanThe Failure: The $78 million Baz Luhrmann-directed epic grossed an underwhelming $211.3 million at the box office, and scooped a mixed 55% on Rotten Tomatoes. The Excuse: When asked about the movie's lukewarm reception, Kidman remarked, "I am not going to apologize for it. I have kind of unusual taste, and sometimes it's mainstream and a lot of times it's not. I've been through a lot in my life." The Truth: Kidman's remark comes across as a little snide, as though saying that audiences weren't smart or savvy enough to appreciate the quirky vision of the film and her part in it. Given how much audiences have supported her both through mainstream and art-house fare, this seems like a pretty desperate and ungrateful comment to make.
