Original Title: El Segredo de Sus Ojos. Directed by Juan José Campanella and starred by Ricardo Darín, The Secret In Their Eyes is one of the best Argentinians movies of all times. It is a story about love, obsession and mystery and it is told in a beautiful, poetic manner. In Buenos Aires, 1970's, a case of rape followed by murder of a young woman named Liliana Coloto traumatizes Benjamin Esposito, the legal counselor responsible for the case. 25 years later, he is retired and starts writing a novel about the crime that still haunts him, having to confront everything he tried to leave behind. The story is told in flashbacks and we can see how the search for the murderer and the events from the past affected the lives of those involved, like Irene's, Esposito's superior with whom he's in love with, Pablo's, his alcoholic coworker and Morales', Liliana's husband whose life stops after the crime. Ricardo Darín is probably Argentina's best actor, and he plays Esposito with perfection. His performance shows the melancholy and tiredness of a man that can't get a closure from his past. The movie, which was directed with mastery Campanella, won the Academy Award for Best Foreign-Language film in 2010 and it is easy to see why: it is a touching love story, thrilling and strong, that surprises us as no other Argentinian film has ever done so far.
