4. Forrest Gump -1994
This one tends to make people angry for saying it's undeserving until you break it down for them. Forrest Gump didn't deserve to win it's six Oscars. Actually, I'll take that back and admit that it deserved two, Film Editing and Visual Effects, happy? Forrest Gump isn't even a particularly GOOD movie, sure it makes you FEEL good but that doesn't mean the movie itself is technically good. It's a manipulative, sappy, ham fisted, awards bait of a movie and a travesty that it beat out the films it did for Oscar Glory. All of the other four nominees deserved to win over Forrest Gump. Every. Single. One. The Shawshank Redemption was a similar film in that it filled you with joy but that's where the similarities end. Shawshank was filmed with a light touch by Frank Darabont. Four Weddings And A Funeral? Way, way better than Gump. This was a comedy about romance that actually had some teeth to it. Robert Redford's Quiz Show also left Gump in the dust in regard to technical prowess. And then there's Pulp Fiction. Quentin Tarantino's mad dog of a movie. The single most influential movie of the entire decade. Think about that for a second -- movies changed, big time, in wake of Pulp Fiction. It spawned a whole new breed of storytelling yet the Academy didn't even consider it the best film of 1994.
