10 Legendary Directors Who Would Have Made Great James Bond Films

1. Alfred Hitchcock

hitchcock-psycho One needs to see only a single Hitchcock film to understand why he would be perfect for the job. He was once given the title "The Master of Suspense" and he deserved it. His innovative use of camera shots, designed to maximize fear and anxiety, along with his famous twist endings, led him to being considered one of the most important filmmakers of all time, a title he still holds today, three decades after his death. But it's his experience in mystery and spy films that really qualify him for this job. Saboteur, North By Northwest, Topaz, Torn Curtain... there's too many to list. The man knew how to craft a good spy story, with suspense, imagination, and some astounding chase scenes. All of which, of course, are hallmarks of a classic James Bond movie. He also liked pushing the envelope when it came to what was acceptable or conventional for the time. The most famous example would likely be Psycho, wherein the primary character is killed around 40 minutes into the movie (okay, so that wouldn't work so well for a James Bond film....) Another plot device he commonly used was having the villains be charming and frequently very refined, which fits into the stereotypical view of Bond villains. Nearly every movie has at least one scene of the evil mastermind drinking tea or dining with Bond before their inevitable battle at the end. And my final reasoning on this is: Wouldn't Grace Kelly have been an amazing Bond girl??
