Julianne Moore is without a doubt one of the finest talents of her generation, but surely the actress knew what she was getting into when she agreed to step into the role of Clarice Starling for Ridley Scott's Hannibal.

Jodie Foster scooped up an Academy Award for Best Actress for her iconic performance as the dogged FBI agent in Silence of the Lambs, and despite Anthony Hopkins returning as the title character and opting to chew on the scenery instead of his co-stars this time around, Hannibal was vastly inferior in every way.

Moore did her best with the material, but didn't generate anything approaching the sparks of chemistry that Foster had shared with Hopkins, and Clarice was instead reduced to a much more paint-by-numbers protagonist that she'd been in her first outing under a different guise.

Hannibal was a box office success after hauling in over $350m, but despite the increase in commercial gains everything else about the movie paled in comparison, Moore included.

I don't do social media, so like or follow me in person but please maintain a safe distance or the authorities will be notified. Don't snap me though, I'll probably break. I was once labelled a misogynist on this very site in a twenty paragraph-long rant for daring to speak ill of the Twilight franchise. I stand by what I said, it's crap.
