6. The Last Temptation of Christ
The other realized passion project. The Last Temptation of Christ is a very rare film in the canon of religious cinema because it presents Jesus as a man just like everyone else. This initially drew heavy criticism and even outrage by religious organizations who deemed the film to be filth and blasphemy for daring to depict The Messiah in such a way. The greatest thing is the realistic depiction of Jesus is exactly why the film is so incredible. Scorsese gave the audience a version of Christ that is relateable to both believers and non-believers alike. The Bible even states that Jesus was all man and all God at once so why would religious organizations find Scorsese's Jesus offensive? His version is the most accurate to the actual scriptures and the most respectful to its protagonist.
