10 Massive Movie Twists That Were Secretly Obvious

8. Söze Actually Means Verbal In Turkish - The Usual Suspects

Ah, The Usual Suspects. It has one of the finest twists in cinematic history €“ Kevin Spacey's Verbal Kint is actually the mysterious murderous mob boss Keyser Söze. The entire film is spooled out from Kint€™'s perspective via an interrogation, so the idea that he himself could be the villain would rarely cross a viewer'€™s mind on first viewing (not least because of the fake-out reveal earlier in the film).

However, there are clues. One is the recognisable gold watch and gold lighter, used by Söze at the beginning and later seen among Kint€™'s personal possessions - it'€™s a tiny moment, but much more noticeable on second watching. Additionally, when Kint tries to light a cigarette with his right hand, he can'€™t (Söze is left handed, but Kint claims to have a crippled left arm).

If you listen very carefully, there'€™s also a dialogue exchange where Kint exclaims "€œI did, I did kill Keaton!"€ but no-one hears because other characters are busy shouting. We also don'€™t see Kint get arrested with the other characters at the start of the film.“

Oh, and in Turkish, "sözel" translates as "verbal," so it would have been very obvious to you if you speak that language. Either way, the clues are there if you€'™re paying enough attention to put them together.
