10 Massive Movie Twists That Were Secretly Obvious
5. Shyamalan Actually Puts In Several Clues - The Visit
The newest movie on this list, The Visit, is M. Night Shyamalan's latest to feature his trademarked third-act twist. If you don't want to know what it is, you might want to skip to the next page.
The Visit focuses on siblings Rebecca (Olivia DeJonge) and Tyler (Ed Oxenbould), who travel alone to meet their elderly grandparents (Peter McRobbie and Deanna Dunagan) for the first time. Although the fact that these grandparents turn out to be evil comes as no surprise, it's a sizeable twist when it's revealed that they're not actually the childrens grandparents at all. Instead, they're escaped mental hospital patients who killed the real grandparents (both of whom were actually their councillors).
But the signs were there from the start, and not just in the elderly duo's erratic behaviour. We should have seen this one coming when two separate visitors came looking for the real grandparents, claiming that they hadn't been into the hospital for work this week. The fake grandparents were never around to answer the door. It's very obvious on second viewing.
