10 Massively Underrated Movies From The 1990s

5. Swingers

Swingers Jon Favreau Vince Vaughn
Miramax Films

Before he was Happy Hogan in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, before he directed Iron Man, Elf, and Zathura, and before he was Pete "Ultimate Fighting Champion" Becker in Friends, Jon Favreau wrote and starred in a brilliant little movie called Swingers, released at the tail-end of 1996.

Alongside Vince Vaughn, Heather Graham, and Ron Livingston, Favreau stars as Mike Peters, a struggling actor-comedian who's trying to make it big in LA, while simultaneously coping with the end of his long-term relationship.

It's a breezy comedy with huge feelgood vibes, and an incredibly fun dynamic between Favreau and Vaughn. Interestingly, it also popularised the saying "Vegas, baby, Vegas!" - meaning that most people probably know that phrase without being aware of the movie it originated from. Criminal.

He has been writing and video editing since his early teens, and first got a taste for content creation after making his own Doctor Who trailers, off the back of a burning obsession with the Matt Smith era of the show. Like many his age, he first got into Doctor Who with the 2005 revival, but has since gone back and fallen in love with the classic years too. If you need someone to recite every Doctor Who episode in order, or to give you a random factoid about the making of Gridlock, Danny is the person to ask!
