10 MCU Characters Missing From Marvel's Phase 4 (And Why)
5. Steve Rogers
In the closing few minutes of Avengers: Endgame, an elderly Steve Rogers arrived in the present day after getting his happy ending with Peggy Carter in order to pass the Captain America mantle to Sam Wilson. The aftermath of that decision will be addressed in The Falcon and The Winter Soldier, but don't expect to see more of old man Steve there.
While Chris Evans has said that he would consider returning to the MCU if the story was right, he's also made it clear that his time as Captain America has reached its end. Just like Endgame served as a farewell for Iron Man, it was also a goodbye for the Star Spangled Avenger, and a minor cameo role showing him as a pensioner would be a major let-down.
It wouldn't be a surprise for Steve to have died by the time the Disney+ series begins, and while it's sad that we won't see this character in Phase 4, at least we know the "Captain America" mantle will live on. Initially, it seems like U.S. Agent will hold that, but common sense says it will ultimately be Sam who wields the shield in the MCU.
