10 MCU Complaints That Make No Damn Sense

1. It's All Disneyfied And "Fun"

The Argument

One mostly expounded by stoic DC fans, this: Marvel is for children. It has no gravity, no darkness and no emotional weight. There are also no real stakes, nobody dies and there's nothing for adults to get their teeth into.

The Rebuttal

Have you seen Disney animations? They're brutal. They have more emotional heft to them than 90% of blockbusters released and they have more rich, deeply affecting adult messages. You're using entirely the wrong barometer for your whinging.

Also, despite the fact that the MCU doesn't need to be dark for the sake of cheap "impact", the films have already flirted with some seriously complex ideas. We've seen death, loss, alienation from modern society, mental illness, physical and mental abuse, a moral spectrum that is very much shades of grey.

If that's not a more complex adult spectrum of material than the DCEU's "darkness equates to being grumpy and murdering people", then I genuinely don't know what to say to you.
