10 MCU Deleted Scenes That Should've Stayed In Their Movies
1. King Loki! (Thor: The Dark World)
The Scene: We all have our dreams, and gods are no different. This axed scene finds Loki, trapped in his cell, filling his substantial amount of free time by imagining himself as the ruler of Asgard. He even wields Thor's hammer, Mjolnir, before he's interrupted by his mother, Frigga. Spoilsport.
Why It Should've Stayed: Thor 2 reportedly underwent a series of reshoots in order to add more Loki to the film, so it's strange to see him feature in yet another deleted moment.
And it's a spectacular one at that. The effects look gorgeous despite being unfinished, and the coronation hall itself emanates that sweeping, Shakespearean feel that Kenneth Branagh brought in spades to the first Thor, but the sequel was missing.
Besides looking great, there's a lot of subtlety and emotion here too. It's incredibly saddening to watch Loki dream about being cared about and adored, two affections people rarely throw his way, and this gives us much more information about why he acts the way he acts throughout the course of the MCU.
He's not acting out of spite, or hatred, or anger - not wholly anyway. Loki just wants to be loved, and because he feels he isn't, he lashes out. And frustratingly for him, the only way he can receive the admiration of others is by retreating into unobtainable fantasy - just so he can forget his disheartening reality.
