Sleepaway Camp is one of the most infamous slasher movies of all time, with its shocking final plot twist proving insane enough to almost distract from the movie's other deliciously off-kilter moments.

While audiences will most fondly remember protagonist and ultimate killer Angela (Felissa Rose), she wouldn't be who she is without the "help" of her deeply disturbed aunt Martha (Desiree Gould), who appears in just two short scenes at the start and end of the movie, but simply cannot be forgotten.

Right from the establishing scene where Martha sends Angela and her son Ricky (Jonathan Tiersten) off to the camp, it's clear that something is supremely, majorly off about this woman.

Her idiosyncratic manner of speaking and incredibly peculiar fashion sense (that beret!) ensure she stands out in this opening scene alone, but her second and final scene at the end of the movie clinches it.

The film's unhinged twist ending reveals that Angela was actually born a boy, Peter, but after a boating accident killed the real Angela, Martha decided to raise Peter as Angela instead.

Actress Desiree Gould, who sadly passed away last year, is a campy delight in both of her scenes, taking a potentially thankless, nothing part and imbuing it with an unnervingly chirpy energy.

In turn, she ensured Aunt Martha remains a cult horror icon 40 years later, even with just four minutes of screen time to her name.
