10 Modern Slasher Horror Movie Villains That Went Unnoticed

1. Josef - Creep

Even though slashers and found-footage are popular forms of horror, there's not many examples of the two sub-genres meshing together seamlessly.

But not only does Creep pull it off, it gives us one of the most terrifying slasher villains over the last decade. The story centres around a videographer called Aaron (played by the director, Patrick Brice), who's hired to record a terminally ill man called Josef (Mark Duplass). After Aaron sees the dark side of his client, he suspects he might be in grave danger.

Despite the straightforward plot, Creep stands out leagues ahead of other slashers, thanks to Duplass' performance as Josef. He flips from being charismatic to sadistic so quickly, you feel queasy every time he's on-screen.

Another reason why Duplass fits the role like a glove is because he co-wrote the script. He also improvised many lines to keep things fresh. So, when his co-star looks confused, it's usually because he has no idea what Duplass is going to do next.

If you watched Creep and you want a bit more, you'll be happy to learn Duplass returns in the sequel. Even though the first film feels like Brice caught lightning in a bottle, Creep 2 is just as good (and as frightening) as its predecessor.
