10. The Avengers Initiative - Iron Man

Not only was the idea of a shared universe of superheroes unheard with before Phase 1 began, the idea of all those big names in one film was a pipe dream. Despite the success of the early Superman and Batman films, there was never a serious thought to a Justice League movie. The same could be said for Marvel's The Avengers. Iron Man wasn't as well known as his Marvel counterparts Spider-Man or X Men, so there was always going to be a gamble in bringing him to the big screen. But thanks to a slick script and a dazzling performance from Robert Downey Jr, Iron Man became a big success. Had we not had that infamous post-credit sequence, audiences would still have been chomping at the bit for a sequel. But thanks to the scene - the meeting between Tony Stark and Nick Fury - the end of Iron Man became the biggest set up in superhero cinematic history, When Nick Fury uttered that line fan boys and girls everywhere squealed with delight. The Avengers hadn't even been announced yet but suddenly the world knew it was coming...
