10 Monster Movies You Should See Before You Die

6. Destroy All Monsters

Predator Movie
Toho

Regardless of how much money and talent Hollywood throws at the Godzilla franchise, they always end up making a long slog of a movie that doesn’t want the audience to have too much fun.

Destroy All Monsters isn’t having any of that and throws all of Toho’s monsters into one film, resulting in one most insanely enjoyable pictures in the franchise. The creatures have been confined to a sanctuary called Monster Island, but thanks to an alien race looking to conquer Earth, they escape and start doing their thing, with Godzilla attacking NYC, Rodan trashing Moscow and Mothra invading Beijing.

Thankfully, a group of astronauts are able to return control of the creatures to Earth, setting up one of the all-time-great showdowns as the monsters take on the invaders.

This was Toho’s 20th monster movie (their 9th to feature Godzilla) and was originally mooted as the Big G’s swansong, so in lieu of a gold watch they put him in one of the liveliest and most outrageous films ever. He was appreciative, I’m sure.
