10 More Actors Who SAVED Their Careers By Turning Down Movie Roles

7. George Clooney Turned Down Wild Wild West

George Clooney's career faced quite the setback in 1997 when he starred in the critical and commercial bust that was Batman & Robin, with Clooney himself even receiving a "Worst Screen Couple" nomination alongside co-star Chris O'Donnell.

A single dud blockbuster won't necessarily sink an A-lister's entire career, though Clooney almost teed up a second consecutive flop when he agreed to star in 1999's comedy Western Wild Wild West alongside Will Smith.

However, Clooney ultimately decided with director Barry Sonnenfeld that he was wrong for the part, and so he was eventually subbed out for Kevin Kline - who, despite the film's failure, was absolutely a better fit for the role of U.S. Marshal Artemus Gordon.

This not only allowed Clooney to sidestep one of the most calamitous box office flops of all time, but opened Clooney's schedule up to instead star in the widely acclaimed David O. Russell film Three Kings.

Clooney followed this up with a bevy of successful and acclaimed movies - namely O Brother, Where Art Thou?, The Perfect Storm, and Ocean's Eleven - and yet, if he had Wild Wild West on his filmography, none of this would've been guaranteed.
