10 More Awesome Movies That Didn't Deserve To Bomb
3. Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga
Though the general consensus is that Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga didn't reach the face-melting highs of Mad Max: Fury Road, it was still an exceptionally well-crafted action film brimming with creativity while being terrifically performed by its ensemble cast.
Despite the Oscar-winning success and considerable esteem Fury Road still holds, Furiosa grossed just $174.3 million worldwide - a smidge higher than its $168 million budget, making it one of the biggest blockbuster flops of the 2020s so far.
Though Furiosa received rave reviews and the fan response was positive, it categorically failed to appeal to more casual-minded viewers, many of whom perhaps weren't hugely interested in seeing a Furiosa-led prequel instead of a direct sequel to Fury Road.
More to the point, it was a Mad Max movie without Mad Max - a risky proposition any way you slice it - and yet, analysts found that Furiosa's audience skewed predominantly male, suggesting that it failed to sufficiently appeal to women despite the film's female lead and strong feminist leanings.
Given that this is a rare prequel made without a cynical bone in its body, though, it's a damn shame it didn't find the audience it deserved theatrically.
