10 More Awesome Movies That Didn't Deserve To Bomb

One of the most mourned bombs of the 21st century so far is unquestionably Edge of Tomorrow - Doug Liman's terrific Tom Cruise-starring sci-fi actioner, which grossed $370.5 million against a $170 million price tag.

Though this is a relatively decent number compared to most movies on this list, the blockbuster's sizable budget and its reliance on international box office meant that it realistically needed to gross 2.5x its budget - around $425 million - to be considered a success.

Edge of Tomorrow fell a little short of the mark, then, despite receiving unexpectedly strong reviews and being warmly embraced by genre fans.

A big problem is that the film's marketing was, to be kind, not good

The title sounds like it was written by an AI, and the trailers presented Edge of Tomorrow as a thoroughly generic sci-fi actioner, rather than emphasising the cleverness of its time loop gimmick or the electric chemistry between Cruise and co-star Emily Blunt.

And there's no escaping the fact that the movie was hobbled by competition from X-Men: Days of Future Past, Maleficent, A Million Ways to Die in the West, and The Fault in Our Stars.

The film's commercial underperformance resulted in it being retitled "Live Die Repeat: Edge of Tomorrow" for the home video release, and though the cast and crew have continually talked up a sequel over the last decade-plus, it still hasn't come to fruition - surely due to the original's mediocre performance.
